PJ Harvey is celebrating her first ever UK number one with her ninth studio album The Hope Six Demolition Project. The album has scored widespread acclaim from music critics and beats her previous chart best, 1993’s Rid of Me which peaked at number two.

In the number two spot this week is Adele’s 25, which has now clocked 22 consecutive weeks in the top five since its release on November 20th last year. The number three spot belongs to former choirboy Aled Jones, whose One Voice climbs for the third week running.

A new entry at number four comes from veteran’s Santana with Santana IV. The record is the band’s first with their classic early 70s lineup in 45 years. It’s also the band’s highest charting album since 1999’s Supernatural, which hit the top spot.

The top five is rounded off by Justin Bieber’s Purpose, celebrating its 23rd week on the chart and climbing two places. Another high climber is Little Mix’s Get Weird, which has rebounded seven places to the number eight spot in its 18th week on the chart.

This week’s chart also sees two Prince albums re-enter the top 40, just hours after his untimely death was announced on Thursday. Ultimate Prince from 2006, enters at the number 10 spot and his 2001 Very Best Of collection lands at number 18.
