Quentin Tarantino has no plans to watch Denis Villeneuve's 'Dune' movie as he has already seen David Lynch's 1984 take on the sci-fi epic.
Quentin Tarantino has no intention of watching Denis Villeneuve's 'Dune' movies.
The legendary filmmaker revealed that he has not watched either of Villenueve's sci-fi epics despite their critical acclaim as he has already seen David Lynch's original 1984 movie.
Tarantino told 'The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast': "I saw (David Lynch's) 'Dune' a couple of times. I don't need to see that story again.
"I don't need to see spice worms. I don't need to see a movie that says the word 'spice' so dramatically."
The 'Pulp Fiction' director insists that he has nothing against Villeneuve's work but he thinks that 'Dune' typifies the industry's current obsession with remakes.
Tarantino, 61, said: "It's one after another of this remake and that remake.
"People ask have you seen 'Dune'? Have you seen 'Ripley'? Have you seen 'Shogun'? And I'm like no, no, no, no.
"There's six or seven Ripley books. If you do one again, why are you doing the same one that they've done twice already? I've seen that story twice before, and I didn't really like it in either version, so I'm not really interested in seeing it a third time.
"If you did another story, that would be interesting enough to give it a shot anyway."
The filmmaker added: "I saw 'Shogun' in the 80s. I watched all 13 hours. I'm good. I don't need to see that story again, I don't care how they do it.
"I don't care if they take me and put me in ancient Japan in a time machine. I don't care, I've seen the story."
Despite his disdain for remakes, Tarantino did reveal that he was "tremendously" impressed by 'Joker: Folie a Deux' – even though critics savaged the musical comic book sequel that stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady GaGa.
The 'Kill Bill' helmer said: "I really got caught up into it. I really liked the musical sequences. I got really caught up. I thought the more banal the songs were, the better they were. I find myself listening to the lyrics of ‘For Once in My Life’ in a way I never have before."
