Rachel McAdams In 'True Detective 2' Talks & Other Cast Rumours

Rachel McAdams is rumoured to be in talks with the makers of the second series of True Detective. The 35-year-old Canadian actor is not the only star reportedly being considered and other names in the mix include Elisabeth Moss (Mad Men) and Michelle Forbes (The Killing).

Reports suggest McAdams (Sherlock Holmes) is being considered for a lead role which is described by the Huff Post as a 'no nonsense sheriff'. It is thought there will be four lead parts, three of which are male. If McAdams joins the show she may be working alongside Colin Farrell (Saving Mr Banks), Taylor Kitsch (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) and Vince Vaughn (The Internship), who are all allegedly in 'final negotiations' with True Detective producers, Variety reports.

McAdams is certainly the most well known actor out of those rumoured to be in talks for the lead female role. However, the creators of True Detective and its network HBO are not shy about approaching some of Hollywood's shining stars. The first series of True Detective, which aired earlier this year, starred Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) and Woody Harrelson (The Hunger Games Trilogy) as Detectives Rust Cohle and Marty Hart. The pair were both nominated for the Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor but lost out to Breaking Bad's Bryan Cranston. McAdams last starred in a television show in 2005 so time will tell if she decides True Detective is an impressive enough lure to step from the big to the little screen.

Other rumours surrounding the show include who is being tapped to direct. The entire first season was directed by Cary Fukunaga (Jane Eyre) but the second season will see a number of different directors at the helm for one or a number of episodes. One of the directors reportedly in talks with True Detective producers is Justin Lin. Lin is best known for directing a number of the Fast and Furious franchise.

Nic Pizzolatto, the writer and creator of the first series, is returning to write the second season. Reports claim the action is moving from Louisiana to California and will centre on the murder of a corrupt city official, and the subsequent police investigation.
