Rob Lowe says the secret to his youthful good looks is getting lots of sleep.

The 59-year-old 'West Wing' star has admitted he will happily snooze for 12 hours a day if he can while he also revealed he's been following the low-carbohydrate Atkins since he was in his 30s and he's convinced it's also helped keep him looking ageless.

During an appearance on his podcast 'Literally! With Rob Lowe', the actor explained: "I get tons of sleep. Like, an embarrassing amount.

"I don't want people to think something is wrong with me. It's a lot of sleep, not 12 hours. But if there's ever 12 [hours] to be had, I'm taking it.

"'I have it down to a science. The eye mask, the Bose noise-cancelling headphones. And I'm gone."

Rob added of his diet plan: "It makes a big difference. You're only as good as what you eat ... It bums me out. Believe me, I'd love to eat nothing but pies and milkshakes. And I would love to eat like a 15-year-old. But I can't."

As well as cutting out carbs, Rob also doesn't drink alcohol after kicking his addiction 33 years ago - and he being teetotal is also very healthy.

He explained: "I haven't had a drink in 33 years. That's a huge thing, even beyond recovery. When you think about the calories and the bloat you're missing. That just adds up. So that's super helpful."

He concluded by revealing he also prays regularly and keeps a gratitude list, adding: "You know, it's all of of it. Some things never change. It's, you know, my family our health, my sobriety, And then I go into , you know, my dogs [Daisy, Oscar, Owen, and Bella] and my, the ability to do a job that I love.

"And I try to get the list going as long as I can. Some days it's longer, some days it's shorter."
