American Pastoral Trailer

American Pastoral is based on Philip Roth's 1998 Pulitzer Prize winning novel which follows the life and Seymour Levov and his observations on his fellow man and the inevitable fake veneer many of us build to masquerade their real personalities.

Seymour Irving Levov has always lived a quiet life, he takes over his family business and marries a woman he loves very much. They have a large house and live a very comfortable life. They have a beautiful daughter called Meredith and up until her teenage years, Merry is much like any other kids but there's a turning point.

Various social influences - in particular the war - make a huge impact on Merry's life and she soon becomes an extremist, after growing more and more weary of her voice not being heard, Merry plants a bomb in a local post office and she becomes a wanted person.

The Boy Trailer

Greta is a young nanny who has moved over from America to a small town in England to take care of a couple's child while they're away. It initially looks like a wonderful opportunity; Greta has a large, chic country home all to herself and gets to spend time with the handsome grocery boy, Malcolm. However, it soon turns bizarre when the elderly couple - Mr. and Mrs. Heelshire - introduce her to their son Brahms who, in fact, is not a boy in the usual sense, but a life sized porcelain doll brought in 20 years previously following the death of their real son in a fire. The Heelshires provide Greta with a list of strict rules to follow in taking care of Brahms, including food and bedtime routines, but Greta can't see the importance of treating Brahms like a real boy and ignores them - much to her peril. It isn't long before she realises she's dealing with no ordinary doll.

Agora Review

OK
Ambitious in scope, this film feels over-serious and oddly cold. Fans of historical dramas may love it, but you're in trouble when theories about the sun and earth are more involving than the interpersonal dramas.

In 4th century Alexandria, Hypatia (Weisz) is a noted philosopher who teaches at the famed library. But the world around her is changing, as Greek and Egyptian beliefs conflict with Christians and Jews. And with the Roman Empire gaining power, the Christians have the edge. As Hypatia continues to explore her far-advanced theories about the earth and the universe, she finds herself caught between two men who love her: loyal servant Davus (Minghella) and the civic leader Orestes (Isaac). And the fundamentalist Romans aren't happy with her radical thoughts.
