Sandra Oh is leaving Grey's Anatomy after 8 years on the hit show, with the actress due to depart the show at the end of the current, 10th season. Oh, who stars as Dr Cristina Yang in the popular medical drama, announced that she will hang up her white coat in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this week, telling the journal that she feels as though now is the natural time to say goodbye to the show, which gave her an experience she will never forget.

"Creatively, I really feel like I gave it my all, and I feel ready to let her go," she said to THR, adding, "It's such an interesting thing to play a character for so long and to actually get the sense that she wants to be let go as well. Cristina wants to be let go, and I am ready to let her go. We have to start the process, story-wise, for the Grey's writers to think of why she's going to go."

The 42-year-old actress went on to say that she first began questioning her commitment to the series in May 2012, when she and her co-stars signed their current contracts taking them up to the end of the 10th season. Oh told her co-stars about her decision to finally leave the show behind on Tuesday (13 August) during rehearsals for the show's 200th episode, with her public announcement coming later that day.

Oh has received five supporting actress Emmy nominations and won one Golden Globe for her portrayal of the ambitious and driven Dr Yang, who so often puts her personal life on hold so that she can commit herself to her professional choices. ABC have yet to reveal how the actress will bow out of the show at the end of the season.
