‘Saturday Night Live’ has announced that Dave Chappelle is to host an episode of the long-running sketch and news series for the first time in his career on November 12th – which will also be the first episode after the US election.

The 43 year old actor and comedian will be hosting ‘SNL’ in what is sure to be an emotionally charged episode, regardless of the outcome of next Tuesday’s election (November 8th).

Chappelle has rarely made any television or other public appearances in over a decade, ever since he left his own ‘Chappelle’s Show’ suddenly in 2005, with that series ending the following year. However, more recently he has returned to stand-up comedy, playing 10 nights at Radio City Music Hall in the summer of 2014, plus a cameo in Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq.

He made his film debut in Mel Brooks’ Robin Hood: Men In Tights and went on to co-write and star in the 1998 drop-out classic Half-Baked. He also produced and starred in the documentary Dave Chappelle’s Block Party.

His musical guests will be legendary hip-hop act A Tribe Called Quest, who will be releasing their first album in 18 years the day before the show, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

‘SNL’ has been getting great traction out of the drama unfolding around the 2016 presidential election. In October’s episodes, Kate McKinnon played Hillary Clinton and Alec Baldwin donned a load of fake tan to portray the controversial Republican Donald Trump in an amusing spoof of the presidential debates.

There’s to be a one-off ‘Saturday Night Live Primetime Election Special’ episode airing the day before the election, on Tuesday November 7th, on NBC.
