Scarlett Johansson once got a cortisone shot in the hopes of clearing her skin.
The 39-year-old actress recalled a time when she so desperately wanted to get rid of a pimple on her face that she went against the advice of a makeup artist, who knew of an ill-fated Hollywood star who had made things "much worse" by taking an injection of the steroid hormone.
She told E! News: "Never get a cortisone shot to get rid of a pimple. I was warned by a make-up artist about this years ago. She told me about an actress who had a big scene coming up but had a pimple she needed to get rid of. So, she went to the dermatologist to get a cortisone shot to get rid of it and it left a huge crater, which looked much worse."
The 'Black Widow' star admitted she was "stupid" in not listening to the makeup artist, and urged others to "avoid" the unorthodox method of skincare.
She said: "Stupidly, I didn't follow this advice and a year later got it done myself– and I can confirm it does leave a hole! So, avoid it if you can. I’ve managed to massage it away over time but it’s probably one of my biggest beauty regrets."
Scarlett instead advised others to "develop a routine" that is realistic and that they can stick by in order to take care of their skin.
She said: "Develop a routine you can stick to. I think I've got mine down now, and the key is to keep it streamlined—that’s why The Outset routines are always straightforward and efficient. You don’t need a 16-step routine to get great results."
