Seth Rogen attended a hearing in Washington D.C. to bring more attention to Alzheimer’s disease: "Americans whisper the words Alzheimer’s. It needs to be yelled and screamed."
Seth Rogen, who is an Alzheimer's Association celebrity Champion, attended a hearing in Washington on Wednesday (Feb 26th), to testify about the disease.
The 31 year-old spoke in front of a Senate Committee about his own personal experiences with family members suffering from Alzheimer's, ABC News reports.
Rogen explained that when he first met the parents of his wife Lauren Miller nine years ago, there was something noticeably wrong with his future mother-in-law, Adele.
Not long after this, Adele was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease while still only in her mind-50s.
Even though Adele obtained the disease at an earlier age than usual, it didn't come too much of a surprise because both of her parents also had it.
Rogen first admitted to not really having a good understanding of Alzheimer's at the time, but knew "it was something only really, really old people got," which included "forgetting your keys and mismatched shoes."
"After forgetting who she and her loved one were," Rogen explained, referring to Adele's health quickly deteriorating. "She forgot how to speak, feed herself, dress herself, all by age of 60."
Since witnessing first-hand how the disease can effect an individual as well as their families, the 'Knocked Up' actor wants to help people going through the same thing.
"I came here today for few reasons," he said. "One, I'm a huge 'House of Cards' fan. ... Two, people need more help. I've personally witnessed the massive amount of financial strain this disease causes. ... Three, to show people they are not alone, so few people share their personal stories."
Since his mother-in-law's diagnosis, Rogen and his wife have founded the 'Hilarity for Charity' foundation, which aims to educate teens on the disease.
The 'This Is The End' director concluded with, "Americans whisper the words Alzehimer's. It needs to be yelled and screamed."
