Simon Cowell has taken on a new TV judging role – for Domino’s.
The long-time talent show judge, 64, made his name as television’s ‘Mr Nasty’ thanks to his scathing comments as the boss of ‘X Factor’, and has now poked fun at the image in a new batch of commercials for the pizza chain.
Two advertising spots he’s shot for Domino’s are packed with the kind of phrases he used throughout his stints as a judge on the show and ‘American Idol’.
One of them shows him seeking perfection as one of the pizza chain’s ‘Quality Captains’.
A voiceover at the start of the ad announces: “At Domino’s, our stores now have quality captains, those who demand perfection.”
Simon then challenges three employees to “impress” him – with their first pizza-building efforts failing to measure up.
He tells them: “Terrible, pathetic, I hate it.”
Simon then adds about one of their pizzas: “I don’t have to think on this one” – before declaring as the workers hold hands like reality TV contestants: “It’s a yes.”
A customer is also seen looking surprised by Simon taking pizza orders.
They say on the phone after he hands her a pizza: “Guess who works at Domino’s?”
In another 30-second ad spot Simon opens it by telling one employee about their pizza: “Topping distribution: horrible… that’s a million per cent No.”
But the workers end up trying again to impress him, with Simon concluding:
“It’s a definite yes.”
Domino’s senior vice president Kate Trumbull said the collaboration was obvious as Simon “demands excellence”.
He added: “Domino’s demands greatness. They know exactly what it means to deliver the perfect pizza. Domino’s is a definite yes from me.”
