In the underwater realm of Bikini Bottom, an annual Crabby Patty festival in underway. Yet, when the inhabitants prepare for their delicious tasty meals, they discover that the secret recipe for the patties has disappeared. It turns out that the dreaded pirate Burger Beard (Antonio Banderas) has taken it and begun selling the burgers on the mainland. Now, an elite taskforce of SpongeBob SquarePants (Tom Kenny), Patrick Star (Bill Fagerbakke) and Squidward Tentacles (Rodger Bumpass) must head out of the water to retrieve the secret recipe in order to defeat Burger Beard and restore peace to Bikini Bottom.
'The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water' comes from director Paul Tibbitt ('SpongeBob SquarePants') and is the second feature film about the characters of the 'SpongeBob SquarePants' television series. After the poor box-office of 'The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie' in 2004, it was announced that a sequel was unlikely to be made. On 4th March 2011, it was confirmed that a new film was in fact in development, with an official announcement coming on 28th February 2012. Filming began on 30th September 2013, with an intended release date for 2014, however this was pushed back in favour of a wider release schedule. 'The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water' is set for release in the US on 6th February 2016.
