Vessel is the first track to be taken from Zola Jesus' third studio album 'Conatus' released through Sacred Bones Records.
Nika Rosa Danilova AKA Zola Jesus worked with longtime visual collaborator Jacqueline Castel on the video for 'Vessel' and the result is something quite dramatic.
"In Vessel, science fiction, wave phenomena, and the abstracted metamorphosis of the moth life cycle are visually manifested in the surreal landscapes of underground mineral caves and icy, remote dunes. Themes of duality and transformation weave throughout, with Nika's own voice revealed as vibrational patterns in water through the microscopic observation of Cymatics." says director Castel.
Speaking about the new album, Nika told us about the writing and development process behind Conatus: It was actually a very hard record to make because I wanted to create something that took a lot of thought. 'Stridulum II' was the exact opposite. I didn't have any time to think about it whereas on 'Conatus' I had time to really figure out things I wanted to get better at, to work at. It was mostly about progression within my own capabilities as a songwriter and a musician. That was the most important thing with this record. Obviously it took a long time to be able to hone those skills and try to work through that process.
Having played a number of European dates over the summer, Zola has now returned to the US where she's completing a fall tour.
