Sheeran's 2014 track 'Thinking Out Loud' allegedly bears a resemblance to Gaye's 'Let's Get It On'.
Ed Sheeran is reportedly the subject of yet another copyright infringement lawsuit, this time being sued for $100 million for allegedly using multiple musical components of Marvin Gaye’s classic ‘Let’s Get It On’ for his 2014 hit ‘Thinking Out Loud’.
A lawsuit filed in the Second US Circuit Court of Appeals in New York claims that the British star copied Gaye’s song’s “melody, rhythms, harmonies, drums, bassline, backing chorus, tempo, syncopation and looping” for his huge hit single released four years ago from his second album X.
‘Thinking Out Loud’ was an enormous worldwide success, reaching the top of the UK Singles Chart and no.2 in the US Billboard Hot 100, with its parent album selling more than 15 million copies.

Copyright infringement between 2017 and 2018.
It seems we can't go a year without some big hit being slapped with an accusation of plagiarism by a usually not-famous songwriter. In 2014 it was Robin Thicke and Pharrell's 'Blurred Lines', then it was Sam Smith's 'Stay With Me' and Mark Ronson's 'Uptown Funk', and the case regarding Led Zeppelin's 'Stairway To Heaven' was even appealed in 2017.
This last year really seems to have been thick with copyright infringement claims, with the latest being Childish Gambino and his politically-charged monster hit 'This Is America'.

The possibility of great chested newts living on Sheeran's Suffolk property has forced him to call in conservation experts.
Ed Sheeran’s plans to build a private chapel on his Suffolk estate has been postponed in order for wildlife experts to check for great chested newts on the property.
The 27 year old star has been forced by the Suffolk Wildlife Trust to hire conservation experts to check for the protected amphibian species on his land, before he can get permission to build the chapel.
Sheeran announced his engagement to his long-term girlfriend Cherry Seaborn back in January this year, and at the same time lodged a planning application with the Suffolk Coastal District Council to build a Saxon-style flint chapel structure on his land, where he wants to wed.

Sheeran's 2011 track was reportedly used by anti-abortion campaigners in Dublin ahead of the referendum in Ireland this week.
Ed Sheeran has issued a statement asserting that he has not given permission for his song ‘Small Bump’ to be used by anti-abortion campaigners in the upcoming Irish referendum on the subject.
The song, which was included on his first studio album + back in 2011 and released as a single the following year, was reportedly being played by activists plugging the pro-life campaign in Dublin’s city centre over the weekend, just a week away from the referendum on the Eighth Amendment to the constitution.
The track’s lyrics include lines like: “You’re just a small bump unknown, you’ll grow into your skin / With a smile like hers and a dimple beneath your chin / Fingernails the size of a half grain of rice, and eyelids closed to be soon opened wide / A small bump, in four months you’ll open your eyes.”

Sheeran earned £28 million over the last 12 months.
It’s been a great year in financial terms for young British artists, with Ed Sheeran, Rita Ora and Calvin Harris all shooting up the Sunday Times’ Rich List after enjoying significant chart success over the last 12 months.
27 year old Sheeran, who released his third album Divide to such huge success in early 2017 that all 16 tracks made the top twenty of the UK Singles Chart, has seen his wealth grow by £28 million over the last year alone, meaning he’s now worth an estimated £80 million, according to the list published on Thursday (May 10th).
However, that still puts him a way behind the traditional big earners in British pop music, with Sir Paul McCartney heading the list with an estimated worth of £820 million.

Ed Sheeran's ubiquity and popularity will wane eventually, Sir Elton warned when talking on George Ezra's podcast.
Ed Sheeran may be the biggest male pop star in the world right now, but his friend and mentor Sir Elton John has warned the young British singer that his fame won’t last forever, and neither will his songs be so loved.
The 71 year old pop legend was speaking about the nature of massive worldwide fame on fellow singer George Ezra’s podcast this week, and said that 27 year old Ed’s music won’t be popular forever, and that he must be prepared for that eventual downturn.
“You have a heyday and you have a rest, and the heyday can never be replaced,” Sir Elton explained about his own experiences. “After that I had the common sense to know I’m not going to have a number one every time straight away. I knew someone else would take over. It’s cyclical.”

He's in talks for a new movie that is rumoured to be based on The Beatles.
Ed Sheeran could be expanding his slowly growing filmography with a forthcoming music comedy directed by Danny Boyle. There are already rumours that the movie is based around The Beatles, and there's even suggestions that it could be a musical. Little is known so far.

After making his first tentative steps into the world of acting with cameos in 'Game of Thrones', 'Home And Away' and 'Bridget Jones's Baby', as well as a recurring role in 'The Bastard Executioner', the 27-year-old could be stretching his cinematic legs again in a new film directed by Boyle and written by Richard Curtis.

The BPI figures for 2017 show an extremely healthy year, with the fastest rate of growth since the mid-Nineties.
Much has been made of the existential threat to the music industry over the years, but that trend doesn’t seem to be applying to the British music scene, with record labels in the UK currently seeing the fastest rates of income growth since the height of Britpop in the 1990s.
New figures published by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) in its annual yearbook on Wednesday (March 11th) showed that trade income increased by 10.6% in 2017 to a total of £839.4 million.
The British industry hasn’t seen anything like this level of growth since the explosion in indie and rock back in the mid-Nineties, when the likes of Blur and Oasis ruled the charts. Indeed, the figures are only just below the 10.7% levels of growth seen 22 years before in 1995.

He's getting fed up of plagiarism allegations.
Ed Sheeran is standing firm against a lawsuit alleging that he stole the tune for the song 'The Rest of Our Life' which he wrote for Tim Mcgraw and Faith Hill. He was sued by the writers of the 2014 Jasmine Rae song 'When I Found You' back in January, but he's certainly not about to settle.

This week, Ed dropped his own legal documents denying all claims that he copied the music without permission or that the tracks even have any similarities. He explains that he never sought permission from songwriters Sean Carey and Beau Golden because his work was an 'originally and independently created musical composition'.
The Friends actress is engaged to Snow Patrol guitarist, Johnny McDaid

The prizes for the artists of this year's iHeartRadio Music Awards were finally announced this weekend (March 11th 2018), with leading winners including Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, The Chainsmokers and Harry Styles. The show concluded the awards season for this first half of the year.

Unsurprisingly, it was Ed Sheeran who took home Male Artist of the Year as well as Song of the Year for 'Shape of You', while his close pal Taylor Swift was given Female Artist.
Presumably in which to marry his fiancee, Cherry Seaborn.
Ed Sheeran has applied to his local council to build a private chapel on his estate in Suffolk, where it is presumed he is planning to get married to his fiancée Cherry Seaborn, it has been reported.
Speculation has been rife as to where the pop star and his long-term girlfriend are planning to tie the knot, ever since Sheeran announced back in January that he had popped the question to Seaborn.
Now, on Thursday (March 1st), The Sun reports that the 27 year old has submitted an application to Suffolk Coastal District Council to build a Saxon-style chapel built from flint at his home in Framlingham.

Nobody can argue with this year's IFPI selection.
To the surprise of absolutely no-one, Ed Sheeran has been named the Global Recording Artist of the Year by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) after an exceptionally successful year. He's been hitting goal after goal over the last few months, so it's no wonder he's thinking about early retirement.

Not only has the 27-year-old hit the jackpot by being the world's best-selling recording artist of 2017, but he has also set a record by being the first with the title to also have best-selling record and single of the year, with his third studio album 'Divide' and song 'Shape of You'.

Stormzy and Dua Lipa both scooped two awards, while Sheeran lost out in all the big categories.
Indeed, it was the grime artist who took home two of the most prestigious awards of the evening, edging out the multi-platinum-selling Sheeran on both occasions to win British Male Solo Artist and the big prize of British Album of the Year for his debut LP Gang Signs & Prayer.
Having been nominated for five awards, the most of the evening and also a record for a female solo artist, 22 year old Dua Lipa took home two prizes, for British Female Solo Artist and British Breakthrough Act. However, her signature hit ‘New Rules’ was confusingly pipped to the post for British Single of the Year by the personality vacuum of Rag ‘n’ Bone Man, whose ‘Human’ single was released all the way back in July 2016.

Who needs Glastonbury when you have The Biggest Weekend?
Music fans across the UK will no doubt be lamenting the lack of Glastonbury Festival fun this year, but they can at least take comfort in the fact that the next best thing is being set up across four different locations. The Biggest Weekend will feature headliners the likes of Taylor Swift, Ed Sheeran and more.

The BBC has announced the first line-up for their forthcoming Biggest Weekend festival; an event which is set to take place in England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland over the May Bank Holiday weekend. Plus, it's probably the best value for money you'll ever see from a festival.
He's been very busy creating his own property empire.
What do you do when you're a multi-millionaire and you can't decide on what massive property to buy? You get them all, of course! Ed Sheeran now has four houses in close proximity to each other within a quaint Suffolk village, which means he effectively owns an entire street.

He announced the news on social media over the weekend.
Ed Sheeran has been head over heels in love with his childhood sweetheart Cherry Seaborn for over two years now, and now they are finally sealing the deal by announcing their engagement. Of course, a lot of his female fans are now utterly heartbroken.

It’s that time of the year again when award ceremonies for the arts roll around. We’ve already had the Golden Globes and the Critic’s Choice Award for films and the Grammys are BRITs are coming up for the music world. However, there is one artist who is not keen on the upcoming British music award celebrations and that is Paloma Faith.
Paloma Faith has criticised the performer line-up at February's BRIT awards
Speaking about the line-up of artists due to perform at the BRITs in February, the Only Love Can Hurt Like This hitmaker has hit out at the fact there is only one woman on the billing.
She takes her celebration of life to international levels.
Taylor Swift drops her first new video since releasing her latest album 'Reputation' in November, with her old pal Ed Sheeran and Future joining her for an international party adventure in 'End Game'. This is how party-girl Taylor celebrates life in three different continents.

Directed by Joseph Kahn, the video has been shot in three cities; we see her partying on a yacht and driving a supercar in Miami with Future, necking shots at a karaoke bar in Tokyo with Ed Sheeran, and joinging a New Year's Eve party in London complete with a pint of lager and a greasy kebab.

The Look What You Made Me Do hitmaker suffered because she decided to withhold her music from streaming services
In 2017, multi-award winning singer Taylor Swift’s critically-acclaimed album, Reputation, sold more than any other album by any other artist. However, the super star hitmaker hasn’t managed to make it to the number one spot on the Top 10 album chart in the US.
Taylor Swift's album, Reputation, sold almost two million copies in just seven weeks
Despite selling almost two million albums, it seems 1,903,000 records purchased in just seven weeks was not enough to get her to the top spot: because she withheld her music on streaming services until December.
