Dave Grohl

Biography

Dave Grohl (born 14th January 1969)
Dave Grohl is a former member of Seattle grunge band Nirvana and the founder of Foo Fighters.

Net worth: Dave Grohl has a net worth of $260 Million according to Celebrity Net Worth (2013)

Musical career: Dave Grohl started out as a drummer, performing in several bands including Washington DC's Scream before joining Seattle grunge band Nirvana alongside frontman Kurt Cobain. The band's second album 'Nevermind' featuring the likes of 'Smells like teen spirit' and 'Come as you are' became their breakthrough record, seeing them gain recognition across the world. Despite their success, Grohl felt increasingly insignificant in the band's line-up Seemingly destined on a path of destruction, Grohl's demons of fighting with his status in the band grew from early on. While his drumming style was a significant element in the band's success, in his mind Nirvana was the band that recorded Bleach and his arrival had altered that sound dramatically. Reluctant to offer his songwriting talents to the rest of the band, he later release a cassette called 'Pocketwatch' under the alias Late!. 'In Utero' followed for Nirvana in September 1993 and was to be their third and final album release. Dave Grohl again played drums and recorded backing vocals and although apparently the album wasn't a hit with the label, the fans disagreed. Reaching number one in both the UK and US album charts, the album picked up where 'Nevermind' left off, with singles including 'Heart shaped box' and 'All apologies'. On April 5th, 1994 tragedy struck for the band when the pressures of fame took a fatal toll on Nirvana's front man, Kurt Cobain. Committing suicide the band had no option but to go their separate ways. Dave Grohl naturally found himself unsure of what to do after the death of Cobain. Fleeting stints playing with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and Pearl Jam ended and Grohl decided to record on his own. After laying down a 15 track demo and wooing attention form Capitol records, Grohl then went on to form the Foo Fighters, a group in which he sings and plays guitar. The bands popularity has grown and The Foo Fighters are now in their own right a globally recognised rock band. With six albums released and a string of hit singles Dave Grohl has made the perceived possible leap career wise after the tragic death of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana.

Personal life: Born in Warren, Ohio, Dave Grohl also grew up in Springfield, Virginia. His parents are teacher Virginia Jean and reporter James Harper Grohl. He began playing guitar in his early teens and got heavily into punk music while attending Thomas Jefferson High School. He was transferred twice, however, due to his minor problems with drugs. He has since become involved with various anti-drug campaigns. In 1994, he married Jennifer Youngblood before divorcing in 1997. Six years later, he tied the knot with Jordyn Blum with whom he had three children Violet Maye, Harper Willow and Ophelia Saint.

Dave Grohl Foo Fighters

Foo Fighters’ lead singer Dave Grohl has revealed details of a new two-part mini-documentary film called Play, which builds up to the unveiling of a brand new solo song on which he plays every instrument.

Trailers for the immersive Play project appeared on Wednesday night ahead of a release date of August 10th, and according to Grohl, it serves to show fans “the rewards and challenges of dedicating ones life to playing and mastering a musical instrument.”

Play was conceived with the help of Mark Monroe, the director of Foo Fighters’ 2014 series ‘Sonic Highways’. In the new project, fans will see Grohl play a brand new solo song, a 23-minute instrumental, on one instrument at a time from guitar to bass and drums, before all seven tracks are merged to form the complete song.
