Kurt Cobain (born 20th February 1967; died 5th April 1994) was the frontman of American grunge band Nirvana.
Net Worth: Kurt Cobain had a net worth of $100 million at the time of his death according to Celebrity Net Worth.
Childhood: Kurt Cobain was born in Aberdeen, Washington. His parents were waitress Wendy and mechanic Donald Cobain, but they divorced when Cobain was just seven, with Wendy remarrying into a particularly abusive relationship. Cobain had a lot of musical relatives and proved to be a competent artist at a young age. He first began to play piano at the age of four. His behaviour became increasingly volatile as he was growing up and ended up leaving high school and becoming homeless for a time. He worked at a nearby Polynesian coastal resort for a while, and started dating Tracy Marander. After their relationship ended, he began a relationship with Tobi Vail of riot grrrl band Bikini Kill though their relationship was strained.
Career: Kurt Cobain formed Nivana in 1987, with a frequently changing line-up that ended with Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic, the latter of whom co-foundered the band. Cobain struggled with the fact that they weren't pulling huge crowds before the release of their debut album 'Bleach' in 1989, released through grunge label Sub Pop Records. They followed that up with their 1991 number one record 'Nevermind', which was certified diamond and featured the smash hit 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'. The final album was 1993's 'In Utero'; another number one, though it received some negative reviews from critics. Singles included the controverisal 'Rape Me' and 'All Apologies'. Cobain struggled a lot with media attention, particularly criticism surrounding his music, and he was extremely vocal about his moral and political views. He was particularly firmly proud of Nirvana performing for gay rights benefit concert No-on-Nine in 1992 and he was strongly in support of pro-choice becoming involved with L7's campaign Rock for Choice.
Personal Life: In 1992, he married Courtney Love with whom he had a child named Courtney Love. Because of their frequent drug use well-publicized by the media, Frances was taken into the care of Love's sister Jamie for some time before they were cleared by the law to have full custody. Cobain used a variety of drugs throughout his life including marijuana, LSD and later heroin. He claimed that the drug use was a way to relieve the pain from a chronic stomach condition that had not been diagnosed by a doctor. Later in his life, he began to suffer from bipolar disorder. He had a heroin overdose in 1993 before he was due to perform in New York. He didn't go to hospital, instead Love gave him a shot of Narcan to counter the effects. The second time he overdosed on March 4th 2014 was reportedly his initial suicide attempt, before he went into rehab. He left the rehab center soon after and was found in his home by an electrician with head wound and a shot gun in his hand in April.
