Video footage of the shocking incident, which occurred during the band's show at London's Wembley Arena, shows the young musician being engulfed in flames after stepping too close to a flame-throwing device.

He is seen clutching at his burning hair before running to the side of the stage to grab a towel and attempt to extinguish the blaze. The group then left the stage and bandmate Ashton Irwin later returned to tell the audience the rest of the show had been cancelled, saying, "Michael has hurt himself so we will not be continuing the show right now. He is OK."

Clifford has since gone online to assure fans he is OK, posting a picture of his face covered in bandages on Instagram.com, adding, "What the f**ks up. Sorry I couldn't finish the encore, but at least I look like Two Face (Batman character). Thanks for worrying every1 (sic)... I'm doing ok... Thanks for worrying!... If I obviously don't want to have my picture taken right now please don't take my picture... See everyone tomorrow!!"

His bandmate Calum Hood ‏added in a post on Twitter.com, "No one ever wants to see your best friend in the state I saw Mike backstage (sic). He's a trooper and is ok."

The band is next due to perform in New Zealand on Thursday (18Jun15).
