The Stand By Me singer passed away on Thursday (30Apr15), aged 76.

Maroon 5 singer Levine was among the first to offer praise, writing, "We lost a true great today. We love you Ben E. King. Thank you for the music", while King added, "Today we lost Ben E. King, a wonderful interpreter of songs. Thank you Ben. Rest in peace."

Musicians such as Chuck D, Huey Lewis, MC Hammer and Rob Thomas also paid tribute to the late star, while Hollywood was represented by Whiplash star Teller, who wrote, "RIP Ben E. King. One of the most tender hearted soulful singers we've ever had the pleasure of listening to", and Rossum who posted a video of her performing Stand By Me online.

Others who remembered King on Friday included Bootsy Collins, new mum Zoe Saldana and Jerry O'Connell, the star of the film Stand By Me, who added, "You know you are good when John Lennon covers your song. Ben E. King was a wonderful and immensely talented man."
