The popular noughties actress was released from 'involuntary psychiatric hold', and is now bidding to overturn the conservatorship held over her by her parents.
Friday saw yet more developments in the ongoing saga of Amanda Bynes, the actress and former child star.
Amanda Bynes was released from 'involuntary psychiatric hold' on Thursday
TMZ reports that Bynes was released on Thursday from the psychiatric facility in Pasadena, California where she had been receiving treatment, following the legal conservatorship granted to her parents last week (October 22). Bynes attended a mandatory hearing and requested her release, which was granted despite doctors’ assessments, on the basis that she was stable enough to not be held involuntarily.
This overturned a court order earlier in the week that she was to spend another month at the facility. News items throughout Friday have been somewhat confused as to what exactly went on, but what is certain is that Bynes took to Twitter to vent her anger towards her parents. She wrote on Friday afternoon: “I am going to court today with my lawyer to prove that I am more than capable of handling my personal life and finances and I am enraged.”

Having made some progress towards getting some stability in her life, October has seen a number of news items reporting erratic behaviour from Bynes. She was spotted talking to herself and having trouble feeding herself in a restaurant in Los Angeles’ LAX airport; then she claimed she was engaged to her 19 year old boyfriend; and then she was accused of shoplifting at New York shopping store Barney’s, who eventually chose not to press charges.
She was finally placed under ‘involuntary psychiatric hold’ when she arrived back in Los Angeles at the behest of her parents Rick and Lynn. All of this followed another suspected DUI at the end of September, an offence that she was previously in trouble for several months beforehand. Before this string of incidents, former Nickolodeon actress Bynes had spent most of 2014 under the observation of her parents as a result of a previous conservatorship grant. She had seemed to be improving before the most recent DUI incident.
