Amanda Bynes was placed under a psychiatric hold after she created a small fire in a stranger's driveway on Monday night (22.07.13).

The 27-year-old actress set a gas can alight in a residential area of Thousand Oaks, California, and fire officials responded to the incident shortly before 9pm on the same day.

According to TMZ.com, Amanda was carrying a ''little red gas tank'' and she burned some of the clothing she was wearing.

Authorities decided she should be sectioned under the 5150 law, which involves a 72-hour involuntary psychiatric hold, during which the patient is given a mental health evaluation.

According to the California Welfare and Institutions Code, this psychiatric hold is necessary when someone ''make[s] statements that they're either a danger to themselves or others, or gravely disabled.''

Although Amanda lists Thousand Oaks as her city of residence she has no apparent connection to the address at which she was found.

The residents are not pressing charges against the troubled star as it seems she didn't intend to cause harm or damage any property.
