Amy Schumer left a $500 tip for a student working at an eatery on Long Island, New York.

The 34-year-old comic - who stars in the new Judd Apatow-directed movie 'Trainwreck' - left the enormous tip after dining at Peter's Clam Bar, where her bill only came to a total of $49.

A source told the New York Post newspaper that Amy opted to leave the generous sum after an ''engaging, animated conversation with her server, Ryan''.

During the course of their conversation, Ryan explained that he was ''a college student working two jobs to fund his education'' and so Amy decided to be particularly kind when it came to paying the bill.

Meanwhile, Amy claimed recently that much of her popularity as a comedian can be attributed to the fact she feels comfortable in her own skin.

She explained to Britain's Glamour magazine: ''I'm not the skinniest or prettiest girl. But who cares? I feel sexy and beautiful. I'm single, but never struggle for suitors.

''I don't mean to sound cocky, but I like myself, I'm proud of myself and people respond to that.

''The surgery and starving that comes with Hollywood is sick. I don't want anything bad enough not to eat.''
