Carly Rae Jepsen will live out a lifelong dream in 2014 as she is set to be the title character of 'Rodgers & Hammerstein’s Cinderella' on Broadway.
Carly Rae Jepsen will be venturing into stage acting in 2014.
The 'Call Me Maybe' singer will be starring as the princess in 'Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella'.
Producers of the stage production announced the news on Sunday (Dec 29th).
The Canadian singer will begin a 12-week long run which will start on February 4th 2014.
She will be the taking over from Tony Award winner Laura Osnes who will be completing her year-long run in January.
Although Jepsen is known for her pop-singing career, she is not new to the world of theatre.
While attending High School the 28 year-old starred in 'Annie,' 'The Wiz' and 'Grease' before attending the Canadian College of Performing Arts.
Jepsen will be joining Fran Drescher, who will also be making her debut on the set date, as she plays the evil stepmother. Drescher has previously won an Emmy Award for 'The Nanny' and will be replacing Harriet Harris.
In a prepared statement, Jepsen said, "Broadway has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl and I look forward to working with this incredibly talented cast to tell this classic tale."
The 'Good Time' singer couldn't contain her excitement and posted a picture of the production's poster on her Instagram page with the caption, "Sooooo... I'm ready to spill my NYC secret. I am going to be playing Cinderella on Broadway starting Feb. 4th! Dream come true."
Jepsen also sent an email to The New York Times which expressed her desire for wanting to star in a Broadway musical.
"It was essentially musical theater training with studies in singing, dancing and acting," the email read. "My favorite part of the school year was our trip to New York, where we met Broadway performers and toured the theaters."
She is a huge fan of the story and admits this played a part in her choosing 'Cinderella'. "It's so hopeful and inspiring," she continued, "I've always been one to believe in the impossible, so I relate to her character completely."
