We've only just had Halloween but already shops are filled with festive fayre, video streaming sites are ramping up their seasonal movie offerings and now Carly Rae Jepsen is first to come forward with her release for the holiday season, 'It's Not Christmas Till Somebody Cries'. (The release of this song is likely to make someone cry, but possibly not for the reasons CRJ intended).
Team Jepsen have not exactly gone all out with the official video. Carly is seen beseated amongst the fairy lights as the song plays out but the twinkle of the lights is about as animated as 'It's Not Christmas Till Somebody Cries' gets. In terms of festive fun, light hearted, well intentioned sing-a-longs go it won't be troubling Bing or even Mariah for chart success, it's all a bit too throw-away to warrant any serious consideration, but, it will no doubt find it's place, and find it's audience.
'It's Not Christmas Till Somebody Cries' is sadly a long way from her breakthrough single, 'Call Me Maybe'. Even Santa's Ho Ho Ho sounds ironic. The bouncy and harmonic ditty has a catchy enough chorus but even the sleigh bells can't lift it to a higher level. If you like your Christmas tacky and twee then look no further but its doubtful we'll see this song return year after year, it's sadly not the early present we all crave and deserve right now.
