American journalist and television personality Anderson Cooper has hit out at fashion designer Karl Lagerfeld's comments that Adele was 'a little too fat.' During his 'Ridiculist' segment on CNN, Cooper defended the British singer and described Lagerfeld as a 'chronic foot in mouth sufferer.'

Speaking to the Metro newspaper, Lagerfeld said: 'The thing at the moment is Adele. She is a little too fat but she has a divine face and a beautiful voice.' Later, Lagerfeld apologised somewhat by saying 'I'd like to say to Adele that I am your biggest admirer. Sometimes when you take a sentence out it changes the meaning of the thought. Adele is my favourite singer and I am a great admirer of her. I lost over 30 kilos 10 years ago and know how it feels when the press is mean to you in regards to your appearance. Adele is a beautiful girl.'

The apology didn't convince Cooper, who accused the fashion designer of not denying his initial comment, before wondering how the comment in question could have been taken out of context. Cooper jokingly suggests: 'She is a little too fat, but only in the brain! She has a really fat brain filled with knowledge!' The journalist then takes a look at some of Lagerfeld's other comments about women; the designer controversially stated that if women wanted to change their looks for good then they'd need plastic surgery.

Cooper ended with an ironic quote from Lagerfeld; when talking about political correctness, the designer said it was OK to be politically correct, 'but do we have to know your own opinion?' Cooper responded with: 'Karl Lagerfeld, I could not have said it better myself.'
