Amazon Studios is investigating claims that Jeffrey Tambor, the star of its hit series ‘Transparent’, behaved in a sexually inappropriate way toward his former assistant.

The star, who was honoured with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame less than three months ago, is accused by his former assistant Van Barnes, a 42 year old transgender actor who served as a crucial part of the ‘Transparent’ team behind the scenes. Barnes made the allegations in a private Facebook post on Monday (November 6th), according to Deadline.

Amazon Entertainment’s vice-president of global communications, Craig Berman, told The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday (November 8th) that the inquiry is in its “very early” stages but offered no precise details about the case.

Later on Wednesday, ‘Transparent’s creator Jill Soloway told the same publication: “Anything that would diminish the level of respect, safety and inclusion so fundamental to our workplace is completely antithetical to our principles. We are cooperating with the investigation into this matter.”

The company is under scrutiny after Amazon Studios boss Roy Price resigned last month in the wake of sexual harassment allegations, specifically that he lewdly propositioned ‘The Man In The High Castle’ creator Isa Dick Hackett during the 2015 Comic-Con.

Former Emmy, Golden Globe and SAG Award winner Tambor has “vehemently” denied the allegations in his own statement.

“I am aware that a former disgruntled assistant of mine has made a private post implying that I had acted in an improper manner toward her,” Tambor told Deadline on Thursday. “I adamantly and vehemently reject and deny any and all implication and allegation that I have ever engaged in any improper behaviour toward this person or any other person I have ever worked with. I am appalled and distressed by this baseless allegation.”

Aside from ‘Transparent’, Van Barnes has previously worked on Caitlyn Jenner’s now-discontinued E! series ‘I Am Cait’ and on Amazon’s mini-series anthology ‘This Is Me’.
