The much-anticipated return of 'Louis' is just round the corner
Louis C.K’s critically acclaimed, award-winning comedy is set to return for a fourth season on May 5. The semi-autobiographical show will hit FX after fans and peers lauded praise over C.K’s offbeat sitcom, which the comedian has taken a 19-month hiatus from to perfect.
Louie is coming back to FX on May 5
The show sees Louis play himself with dramatized elements of his life. He has two kids in real life, and the two girls in the show playing his daughters (Hadley Delany and Ursula Parker) mirror the frustrations C.K displays about parenthood in his stand up bits.
Praised for its originality, “Louie” doesn’t follow a narrative from episode to episode, instead focussing on an open and closed story (apart from a three part special somewhere down the line, but we don’t want to spoil that for you if you haven’t seen it – it’s ridiculously good).
The themes, however, do run through the show’s core, like C.K’s career, social awkwardness, terrible relationships and the challenges of parenthood. All these aspects of life are melded together in an often hilarious, sometimes poignant, always artistically intelligent way.
What’s more, C.K took a huge break away from the show to make sure he got the fourth season right. He also managed to play cameos in two Oscar-nominated films in that time: David O Russell’s American Hustle and Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine.
"Louis said he needed extra time between seasons three and four of his show because - even though Louie was the most critically acclaimed television comedy series in America - he needed to make it even better," said FX CEO John Landgraf. "Based on the three episodes we've seen, remarkably, he accomplished his goal."
