Lulu has admitted that her 1974 theme for James Bond movie The Man With The Golden Gun was one of the worst ever, but she’s in good company.

The 68-year-old singer said that while her theme was one of the worst recorded for the film series, Madonna’s 2002 offering ‘Die Another Day’ was equally awful.

In a promotional video for Vauxhall Astra, in which the singer drove around her home town of Glasgow in one of the cars, Lulu was asked what it was like to be one of just a handful of artists to have recorded a Bond theme.

The Scottish singer replied: "Except I think mine was probably the worst one ever. Mine was not a great song."

But when asked if she’d heard Madonna’s theme, Lulu replied: "Oh yes, hers was pretty bad. Madonna and I. That's the only time Madonna and I could be together on anything."

Lulu added that she was approached by the filmmakers to record the theme and thought it was a ‘cool’ opportunity, especially as she had a crush on the soundtrack’s composer John Barry.

‘The Man With The Golden Gun’ was released by Lulu in 1974, but failed to chart. Madonna’s theme reached number eight on the Billboard charts in the US and number three on the UK singles chart in 2002. Both regularly appear on lists of the all-time worst Bond themes.
