'Game of Thrones' leads the nominations for the 67th annual Primetime Emmy Awards with a staggering 24 nods.

The fantasy drama series has the most chance of triumphing at the forthcoming ceremony thanks to its huge number of places on the shortlists - including being up for the coveted Outstanding Drama Series prize alongside 'Better Call Saul', 'Downton Abbey', 'Homeland', 'House of Cards' and 'Mad Men' - with 'American Horror: Freak Show' and 'Olive Kitteridge' following behind with 19 and 13 nominations respectively.

As 'Game of Thrones' has an ensemble cast, it didn't have any nominations in the Lead Actor or Actress categories, but stars Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey and Emilia Clarke are up for supporting role prizes.

Elsewhere, 'The Big Bang Theory' was a surprise omission from the Outstanding Comedy Series category, leaving 'Louie', 'Modern Family', 'Parks and Recreation', 'Silicon Valley', 'Transparent', 'Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt' and 'Veep' to fight it out for the prize.

The nominations were announced today (16.07.15) by Cat Deeley and Uzo Aduba, and both stars are also in the running for awards.

Cat is up for 'Outstanding Host of a Reality or Reality Competition Program' for her presenting of 'So You Think You Can Dance' - which is also up for Outstanding Reality Competition Program - while 'Orange is the New Black' star Uzo is in the running for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.

Andy Samberg will host the 2015 Primetime Emmy Awards at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on September 20.
