Riz Ahmed returns after perhaps the most incredible year of his career with a brand new mystery thriller entitled 'City of Tiny Lights'. True to form, it sees him back in his home city of London, playing a private detective with a history that's haunting him.

The 'Four Lions' star will appear alongside 'Penny Dreadful' actress Billie Piper in the forthcoming crime flick, which has been adapted by Patrick Neate from his novel of the same name which he published in 2005. The award-winning Pete Travis ('Dredd', 'Endgame', 'Vantage Point') is at the helm, and it has all the makings of being one of Britain's most memorable outputs of the year.

Riz Ahmed is hardly an acting newcomer; his face has been well known in Britain for his appearances in the likes of 'Four Lions', 'Centurion' and Plan B's 'Ill Manors'. In the last few years, however, he has launched himself in America with a starring role in Mira Nair's 'The Reluctant Fundamentalist' and supporting parts in 'Closed Circuit' and 'Nightcrawler'.

Since 2016, he has raised his profile to massive heights. He appeared opposite Matt Damon in 'Jason Bourne' as Deep Dream CEO Aaron Kalloor, and with Rooney Mara in the drama 'Una' (based on David Harrower's 2005 play 'Blackbird'). He starred in the thrice Golden Globe nominated HBO drama 'The Night Of' about a man who finds himself faced with a murder charge after her wakes up after a heavy night to a the corpse of a girl who's been stabbed to death, and he also played Elias Rahim in the eerie Netflix mystery drama 'The OA', which also featured Brit Marling, Jason Isaacs and singer-songwriter Sharon Van Etten.

Most notably, however, he landed the supporting role of Rebel fighter Bodhi Rook in Gareth Edwards' 'Star Wars' spin-off 'Rogue One: A Star Wars Story'. After that, it seems there's nowhere he can go but up.

No matter what Hollywood has to offer him though, Riz Ahmed will always find himself traversing the grittiest film sets of London because that's where he began. And few storylines are grittier than 'City of Tiny Lights'. He plays private eye Tommy Akhtar on a case to find out what happened to a Russian escort who never returned home from her appointment with a client. Armed with little more than CCTV footage and a undercover aide, he's about to discover some dark secrets hiding within these familiar streets.

'City of Tiny Lights' will be released on April 7th 2017.
