Nicholas Sparks has done it again. 'The Longest Ride' is the latest heartbreaking romance tale of his to be adapted to film, eleven years after his debut novel 'The Notebook' (written in 1996) hit screens to much acclaim. To this day it remains one of the top tear-jerkers for film lovers everywhere. Now, it seems, there's competition! The film version of Sparks' 2013 novel 'The Longest Ride' is set to reach theaters this Spring - and it's another weepy one. Of course, all his romance films have had their moments: 'A Walk To Remember', 'The Lucky One' and 'Dear John' to name but a few. But this one really looks set to pull at the heartstrings.

Watch the trailer for 'The Longest Ride' here:

The concept is similar to 'The Notebook' in various ways; two young lovers from completely different walks of life, this time a college student and a rodeo-loving cowboy, whose relationship may seem blissful from the outset, but is soon thrust into a whirlwind of fear and disillusionment as their opposite lifestyles collide, with Luke intent on continuing his dangerous bull-riding passion even if it kills him - and it probably will. There's also the contrast between young and old couples; while in 'The Notebook' we saw how Noah and Allie's relationship was as youngsters as well as when they are elderly, in 'The Longest Ride' we see a young couple's perception of love and romance turned around by an elderly man and his love and regrets for his own former flame.

Then there's the fact that we have a new heartthrob to swoon over. Ryan Gosling became the ultimate sex-symbol after his gruff, fiercely romantic labour worker performance in 'The Notebook'. But with Scott Eastwood in 'The Longest Ride', Gosling has some serious competition in the hottie stakes. It seems to be a 'like father, like son' situation for Eastwood, whose father is, you guessed it, Spaghetti Western adonis Clint Eastwood.

The spitting image of his father, Scott Eastwood lands his first lead film role in 'The Longest Ride' having previously appeared in supporting roles in Brad Pitt's 'Fury', Clint Eastwood's 'Gran Torino' and 'Texas Chainsaw 3D' - and we doubt that we won't see him leading a cast again in the next few years. After all, he's already had a head start and all it took was a Sparks novel to propel Gosling into worldwide recognition. It would be safe to expect the same from Eastwood; especially since he was among those considered for the role of Christian Grey in 'Fifty Shades Of Grey'. We think he suits this more innocent role though.
