The Alan Partridge movie may still be four months away, but here's something to whet your appetite - the first ever teaser trailer, featuring Tim Key and of course, Steve Coogan as Partridge himself. It's been a hard slog for Coogan and writer Armando Iannucci to get Norfolk's favourite radio host to the big screen, and rumours about a potential feature film began in August 2004. At the time, the actor said, "It's always been my plan to make Alan go global. It's what he lives for really, not just doing the show on Radio Norwich." Things got serious one year later, when Coogan's production firm Baby Cow officially announced that the movie was in the pipeline, though a planned plot involving an al-Qaeda siege was scrapped after the London bombings.

Iannucci had previously been dismissive of the idea of a movie spin-off, though was eventually talked round. In July 2010, he confirmed that a film was definitely in the works and that he and Coogan had agreed a story for a movie, which did not feature Alan travelling to America, which was touted at the time. After the screenplay was complete - penned by Coogan, Iannucci, Peter Baynham, Rob Gibbons and Neil Gibbons - it was confirmed the story would see Alan's employer North Norfolk Digital being taken over by a media conglomerate named Shape. In the new teaser trailer, Partridge is seen trying to decide on a name for his movie, suggesting 'Colossal Velocity,' 'The Norfolk Fracture,' 'Gun Bird' and 'Chap of Steel.' Alan's co-host, played by Tim Key, reminds the presenter of the plot, "It's you in a siege at a radio station," before suggesting the title "Alpha Papa." It appears Key's title won out.

The Alan Partridge movie began shooting last year, marking the latest chapter in the story of Coogan's most popular character. He was first seen as an exuberant sports reporter on The Day Today, before helming his own chat show Knowing me, Knowing You. Another series, I'm Alan Partridge, followed his life as a radio DJ who lived modestly at the Linton Travel Tavern. The Alan Partridge movie hits cinemas in the UK on August 7, 2013. It is released through StudioCanal. Watch the movie being filmed on Cromer Pier:
