Tina Turner has married German record producer Erwin Bach in an exclusive ceremony on the shores of the beautiful Lake Zurich near their Kusnacht home. The pair have been dating since the eighties, with Turner publicly stating they'd never get married after her first marriage to Ike Turner turned out to be a toughie. Back when their engagement was announced earlier this year the media exploded with whoops of "toyboy!" and "cougar!" but it seems that their age difference - 16 years - has had no negative impact upon the happiness of their relationship.

In 2006, Turner dispelled any notion that she and Bach would ever exchange vows during an interview with Oprah Winfrey (as reported by The Daily Mail), voicing her concerns over the implications of a marriage: "People often ask me why don't I marry. I have love. I have a good life. I don't need to interfere with that. For some people, marriage means "You're mine now."

That can be the beginning of the failure of a relationship." She also mentioned the issue of ownership, which can be a negative facet of marriage, saying "Psychologically, something happens when someone says, "You're my husband or wife. You can't do this or that." It's about ownership. That freedom that two people loving each other and wanting to be together - and being able to leave if anything is wrong - is gone. Neither Erwin nor I feel the need to get married. We've been together for 18 years."

The 73 year-old diva was married to the talented yet volatile funk/blues musician Ike Turner in a 14 year coupling that spanned the 60s and 70s. Following their 1978 divorce, Turner spoke out about the domestic violence she had suffered at the hands of her quick-tempered ex-husband who would routinely slap and punch her. Ike Turner had an unusual view of what constituted spousal violence, having said at the time "Yeah I hit her, but I didn't hit her more than the average guy beats his wife...If she says I abused her, maybe I did." He died in December 2007 from complications related to cocaine abuse.

Erwin and Tina met at a London record label party and were friends for some time before they became an item. The pair moved to Switzerland in 1994 and Turner's citizenship became official this year after she passed her German language tests with flying colours, renouncing her US passport.

Their exclusive ceremony was attended by guests including David Bowie, Oprah Winfrey and Sade and all wore white. Perhaps, frightened by her previous experience of marriage, Tina wanted to make sure Bach truly was a good egg before they were joined in holy matrimony - think of it as a 16 year audition!
