False alarm, everyone – Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland has not been imprisoned for the past couple weeks despite reports to the contrary. According the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, via The Wrap, the man taken into custody was not Weiland. The man has been identified as 44-year-old Jason Michael Hurley, according to a press release from the Beverly Hills Police Department.

False alarm people, Weiland has NOT been arrested.

The confusion began at Hurley’s arrest, when the man identified himself as Scott Weiland. He was arrested on July 26. It took several weeks, before he was properly identified by his fingertips on Thursday.

At this point Hurley is facing an additional charge of furnishing false information to a police officer. He was originally booked for allegedly stealing razors and cosmetics from a Rite-Aid. As for Weiland, the Stone Temple Pilots frontman took to Facebook on Thursday to deny the claims of his arrest, made earlier by TMZ. In a video, posted on his page, Weiland explained: “I just got finished reading something interesting: a nice piece of fiction from TMZ saying that I was in jail and had been for four months.”

He came down hard on TMZ for the mistake, ending the video with: “All I have to say to our fans — whether you find it funny or interesting or whether you're sad — don't worry, don't fret,” he concluded. “It's a lie. TMZ, you'll be hearing from my attorneys.”

Weiland has threatened legal action.

However, it looks like the misinformation wasn’t a mistake on the part of TMZ. Following Weiland’s video, a spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office explained for The Wrap: “We confirmed that inside the jail is someone booked as Scott Klein Weiland. We confirmed that that person was there inside the jail. So that is what we confirmed. What we are trying to do now is to speak to the Beverly Hills Police Department to find out what the deal is. We are trying to find out what is going on with this.”
