Daft Punk are to return to the live stage for the first time in three years at next months’ Grammy Awards, with the announcement that they’ll be performing during the ceremony with The Weeknd.

The robotic duo teamed up with the Canadian singer for his recently released album Starboy, performing with him on the title track as well as ‘I Feel It Coming’. On Tuesday (January 31st), the Recording Academy announced that they’ll be joining forces again to render those songs live at the Staples Centre in Los Angeles on February 12th, alongside other confirmed performers Adele, Bruno Mars and Metallica.

It’ll be the first time that the elusive French duo, consisting of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, have performed live since they played the same ceremony back in 2014, where they shared a stage with Nile Rodgers, Pharrell Williams and Stevie Wonder to play ‘Get Lucky’.

They also won both the Record of the Year prize for the aforementioned smash hit single, and Album of the Year for its parent LP Random Access Memories, released the previous year.

This news will inevitably stoke speculation that Daft Punk are to embark on a world tour again in 2017. The band has two live albums entitled Alive 1997 and Alive 2007 named after their two tours, which seem to happen once every ten years as a pattern.

Fans were left frustrated after a mysterious website with the coded title ‘Alive 2017’ turned out to be another hoax, while a short teaser briefly appeared online and then was taken down earlier in January.

Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis has already categorically denied that Daft Punk would be headlining the festival in 2017. Which is exactly the kind of thing you’d tell the outside world if you were Daft Punk and planning a secret comeback at Glastonbury…
