Ahead of the release of their first studio album of "original music in a decade" Arkansas rockers Evanescence have released their first single of 2021 with 'Better Without You'. Their latest album, 'The Bitter Truth', is due to land on March 26th and has been a long time coming with lead singer Amy Lee having flagged up it's conception back in 2019.
Having started work on the band's fifth full length album two years ago much of it's completion was carried out during the lockdown of the pandemic. Amy said of the recording and producing, "The energy was just amped, we were in there on fire. Now, the guys are back at their homes, and I am wading through the aftermath of all the music, piecing it together and finalizing the record. The upside of this time is that I’ve had to buckle down and focus. Even on the days that I don’t want to, I come out here and I go, Let’s do this. Let’s finish the album."
'The Bitter Truth' has been headed up by lead singles 'Yeah Right', 'Use My Voice', 'The Game Is Over' and 'Wasted On You', all released between April and December last year. 'Better Without You', their latest release, is arguably the heaviest and most anthemic of the lot.
The music box start may lead you to think this is going to be a delicate ditty but those notions are quickly dispelled as Amy starts to sing, the drum beat kicks in and the guitars shred the soundtrack. This raucous and driven proclamation of independence is a relentless and powerful affirmation of Evanescence welcome return.
