Forest Whitaker And Rocker Chris Cornell Will Help Buddhist Leader His Holiness The Dalai Lama Ring In His 80s At An Event In Silverado, California On Saturday (04jul15).
The two stars will cut short their American Independence Day weekend festivities to celebrate with the spiritual guru at the Peak Mind Foundation event.
Oscar winner Whitaker has been asked to introduce the Dalai Lama, while Soundgarden star Cornell and Aloe Blacc will perform for him.
Blacc tells Rolling Stone, "I'm dedicated to using my message and actions to bring hope and transformation to those in need. It's a tremendous honour to celebrate the 80th birthday and legacy of the Dalai Lama who has done this his entire life."
The event comes a week after the Dalai Lama visited the Glastonbury festival in England and appeared onstage with punk icon Patti Smith, who presented him with a birthday cake.
He'll turn 80 on Monday (06Jul15), when a new tribute album, Songs for Tibet II, will be released. The follow-up to 2008's Songs For Tibet, the new compilation features contributions from Sting, Lorde, Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush, among others.
