Forest Whitaker is reportedly in negotiations to direct the film adaptation of best-selling novel 'The Shack' and is also said to be taking on a supporting role.
Forest Whitaker is in talks to direct 'The Shack'.
The 52-year-old actor is also expected to take on a supporting role in the movie, which is an adaptation of William Paul Young's best-selling novel 'The Shack'.
Summit Entertainment acquired the rights to the film - which is being written by John Fusco and produced by Gill Netter and Brad Cummings - last year, and Whitaker is currently in negotiations to direct, according to Deadline.
The story follows a character named Mackenzie Allen Phillips who receives a mysterious note - which appears to be from God - as he is struggling with the disappearance and possible murder of his young daughter and then finds himself on a journey of truth, forgiveness, and acceptance.
The book was first released in 2007 and has been in development since it was acquired by Summit.
If Whitaker takes on the project it will not be his first time working behind the camera or on an adaptation of a novel, as in 1995 he made 'Waiting to Exhale' which was based on the book of the same name by Terry McMillan.
