I Concur Oblige Single

Leeds four-piece I Concur have an uncanny knack of being able to cross many a musical boundary at random, taking the odd turn here and there for the unexpected every now and then rather settle on some ill-defined formula for success.

Following on from the more obtuse 'Lucky Jack', 'Oblige' is a deceptive slice of melancholia that ticks all the right boxes from its insatiable melody to an endearing vocal performance that fits timelessly with the song's sadness tinged lyrical aspersions quite dramatically. Already a staple of their live set and a highlight from their recent Leeds/Reading Festival weekender, 'Oblige' should turn I Concur onto a wider audience.

Flipside 'Captors' is a slightly more upbeat offering, both in tempo and decibels, Chris Woolford's guitar threatening to take off alongside several 747s at more than one point. As leftfield as their intentions may be, there is also an unashamedly pop side to this band that occasionally rears its head here, even if one gets the feeling I Concur would rather smother its head in a pillow of atmospherics instead.

Whatever the direction, I Concur are onto a winner here.
