We’re not used to seeing country starlets going into the classic Spears/Lohan type tailspin, but Leann Rimes’s odd performance on the X Factor on Wednesday was one instance where the clean cut, all American stereotype didn’t seem to apply.
The Huffington Post called the performance “awkward” and speculation has arisen online that the singer was drunk when she took the stage alongside 13-year-old contestant Carly Rose Soneclar.
Rimes’s lawyer, Larry Stein, has adamantly denied the rumors and attributed the country star’s unusual performance to the fact that she was singing alongside an inexperienced contestant. "LeAnn was not performing the way she would normally perform, because she was on stage with a young girl," Stein commented for TMZ. Regarding the speculation that LeAnn was drunk on stage, he said: "There have been a lot of untrue things said by others and it feeds into this sort of thing." Of course, there could have been a number of factors feeding into the shaky display on Wednesday. According to sources, the singer hasn’t had it easy lately. She has been treated for stress and anxiety during the summer and, a day before her X Factor performance, told Jay Leno that she was battling a cold. Whatever the reason, we wish Ms Rimes good luck with her recovery.
