The rather depressing news that Lee Ryan had been arrested for alleged drink driving and possession of drugs has been followed by a statement from the former Blue star, who insists that spending a night in the cells has acted as a “wake-up call”.

He explained: "I know I've let people down. Being arrested and ending up in a cell was the biggest wake-up call to me. It made me realise there is a problem I can't keep ignoring. I need to do something about it," he added.

Apparently, the 30-year-old was driving his Range Rover erratically in West London and was pulled over by the police and subsequently arrested. He was taken into custody at a local station, where he was charged with failing to provide a specimen and criminal damage.

"I can confirm that Lee was arrested in the early hours of Friday morning. He was arrested on suspicion of drink driving and is awaiting a court date. He was charged with failure to provide a specimen and criminal damage. A controlled substance was found in his possession,” read a statement released by Ryan’s official spokesperson at the time.

A Met Police spokesman said: "Lee Ryan, 30, will appear on bail at Ealing Magistrates' court on Friday, May 2, charged with failing to provide a specimen and criminal damage."

His band, Blue, formed in 2000 and went on to sell 3.3 million albums in the UK. Ryan recently made headlines again when he was involved in a love-triangle with actress Jasmine Waltz and model Casey Batchelor during the latest series of Celebrity Big Brother.
