Marking Disney’s first adaptation of a Broadway musical, Into the Woods comes to us from Chicago director Rob Marshal. The all-star ensemble cast take on roles from various Grimm fairy tales, in this altered, family friendly version containing new songs and plot changes. The musical was originally planned to be adapted in the early 1990s by Columbia Pictures however nothing came of it. Reports of deviations to the original script have been confirmed and revoked by the shows writer – Stephen Sondheim. We’ll have to wait until Christmas Day 2014 to find out whether Disney has remained faithful to the Broadway show, or whether they have decided to update it for the silver screen.
