Royal Mail is marking April Fool’s Day by creating a set of stamps featuring some of Britain’s most treasured comedians, including the Monty Python team and The Two Ronnies. The stamps went on sale on April 1st, and are of limited availability.

The set of ten first class stamps commemorates comic figures from the traditions of music hall, stand-up comedy and sketch shows dating from the 1950s to the present. A photograph of the performer, and images of iconic scenes from their shows, are featured on each.

Andrew Hammond, Royal Mail’s head of stamps, said in a statement: “For decades, the UK has long boasted some of the most influential and significant comedy talent in the world. This set of stamps rightly pays tribute to the comedians who have made the nation laugh out loud at their ground-breaking comedy genius.”

Royal Mail is also unveiling a new postmark for the occasion, while post delivery vans in locations with strong geographical links to the comedians will be emblazoned with an image of the relevant stamp.

In recent Monty Python news, the five living members of the legendary collective have announced that they’ll be getting back together to attend the Tribeca Film Festival in New York later this month. It’s been forty years since their first feature film Monty Python and the Holy Grail was unleashed on the movie-going public, and the group will be attending an April 24th screening of it at The Beacon Theatre.
