Nick Mulvey (born 1988) Nick Mulvey is a British musician best known as a former member of Portico Quartet.
Musical career: Nick Mulvey joined Portico Quartet in 2005 while at university in London, teaming up with Jack Wyllie, Duncan Bellamy and Milo Fitzpatrick. They released their first album 'Knee-deep in the North Sea' in 2007, and Mulvey left the group in 2011. He subsequently embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut EP 'The Trellis' in 2012, followed by 'Fever to the Form' the next year. 2013 saw him on tour with Laura Marling. His first album, 'First Mind', was released in 2014 through Fiction Records and featured singles 'Nitrous' and 'Cucurucu'. Produced by producer Dan Carey, it was also nominated for the 2014 Mercury Prize.
Personal life: Nick Mulvey was born in Cambridge. He first bought a guitar when he was 18 and visiting Spain. He studied music and art in Havana, Cuba before enrolling at the University of London's School of Oriental and African Studies where he studied Ethnomusicology.
New additions add to the excitement of this already highly anticipated Nottingham festival.
No Tomorrow Festival 2015 welcomes a handful of further additions to their already exciting line-up; Milky Chance, Gorgon City and Nick Mulvey are the latest to join the ever-growing bill for Nottingham's most unmissable weekend of the Summer.
They will be joining with the likes of already announced artists James Bay, John Newman, Jessie Ware and MNEK for the second year of No Tomorrow Festival, which is taking place at Nottingham's Wollaton Park from June 6th to 7th. Other new announcements were SOAK, Karen Harding, JP Cooper, Zak Abel, My Nu Leng, Justin Martin and Grades.
The singer is joined by Ben Howard and George Clinton on the line-up.
Bjork has become the latest headline announcement for Wilderness Festival 2015, set to hit Cornbury Park in Oxfordshire, UK from August 6th to 9th following the release of her acclaimed ninth album 'Vulnicura' early this year. She'll appear as the main act on the Friday.
Bjork to headline Wilderness 2015
Having released the follow-up to her 2011 record 'Biophilia' in January, the popular avant-garde Icelandic singer is taking to the road in support of it in the coming months. Among the handful of dates so far announced this year, she'll be topping Friday's bill at Wilderness in the Summer, alongside previously announced headliners for Saturday and Sunday, Ben Howard and George Clinton, the latter of whom will be rocking both his bands Parliament and Funkadelic.
The nominations are out, but which of the twelve nominees stands the best chance of winning?
The 24th edition of the annual Barclaycard Mercury Prize is due to be held on Wednesday 29th October at London’s Roundhouse.
Last week we brought you our analysis of who we thought would make the dozen-strong shortlist from which the judges will pick the eventual winner. We got five out of the twelve correct, not bad as many pundits have expressed surprise at the relative obscurity of this year’s list in comparison to previous awards.
Only two of the nominated albums have reached the Number 1 spot in the UK Albums Chart, and only one nominee can realistically call himself a household name. There has also been a surprising snub for Sam Smith, who has made a huge impression on the British public’s imagination, with his debut album In The Lonely Hour sitting at the top the charts four months after its release.

Former Portico Quartet percussionist Nick Mulvey is now due to release his first solo album 'First Mind' three years after he first set out as a stand-alone musician. In that time, he has released two EPs ('The Trellis' and 'Fever To The Form') and took a long break away from the music industry to further study his passion for songwriting.
He's already had a fulfilling journey as a musician, having travelled around the world picking up influences in various cultural genres and even enrolling at a guitar school in Cuba as a teenager. We caught up with him to talk about 'First Mind' (due for release on May 12th 2014), splitting from Portico Quartet and his exciting plans for 2014.
Contactmusic: Hi Nick, how are you doing?
Nick Mulvey: Very good. We're on tour; it's about four weeks in total, the whole thing and we're having a blast! There's a couple of things that are different about this tour for me because we're doing it in B&Bs rather than hotels so we've got quite intriguing venues wherever we arrive.
