Trent Reznor 2009

Trent Reznor back in 2009, he'll be treading the boards again with Nine Inch Nails this year

In a statement made by the musician and reported by Pitchfork, he said “Nine Inch Nails are touring this year. I was working with [former band member] Adrian Belew on some musical ideas, which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show. Calls were made to some friends, lots of new ideas were discussed, and a show was booked - which led to another, which somehow led to a lot of shows.”

Continuing he added “The band is reinventing itself from scratch and will be comprised of Eric Avery, Adrian Belew, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, Ilan Rubin, and me. The first shows will begin this summer, followed by a full-on arena tour of the US this fall, and lots of other dates worldwide to follow through 2014. Lots of details and dates to come. See you soon.” This is pretty thrilling news. Nine Inch Nails came to prominence in 1989 with their debut LP Pretty Hate Machine, advancing their sound to the almighty The Downward Spiral, which went four times platinum in the US in 1994 and reached second on the Billboard charts –an incredible feat for a band whose rough, abrasive music is hardly what you would call readily accessible. After headlining that year’s Woodstock, they followed up with two number one LPs followed for the line-up, which has always revolved, with Reznor the only constant, the group’s seventh and to-date last record being 2008’s The Slip.

Reznor has been releasing music under the moniker How To Destroy Angels, as well as winning the Oscar in 2010 for best original score for the film The Social Network. However the return of NiN is another matter entirely, and we personally can’t wait for it.
