Peter Berg has given a copy of the letter he wrote to Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, to the Hollywood Reporter, which shows the director accusing Romney of plagiarism.

Peter Berg is responsible for 'Friday Night Lights' which was a film that he subsequently turned into a TV show that focuses on the American Football team of a town in Texas. Romney and his wife are known to be fans of the series. In it, the slogan 'Clear eyes, full heart, can't lose!' is used to rally the team before a game. It is this phrase that Romney has appropriated for his own means, much to the distaste of Berg.

In the letter he sent to Romney he states “Your politics and campaign are clearly not aligned with the themes we portrayed in our series” continuing, “The only relevant comparison that I see between your campaign and Friday Night Lights is in the character of Buddy Garrity — who turned his back on American car manufacturers selling imported cars from Japan...Please come up with your own campaign slogan.”

Romney explained his affinity with the phrase and how he feels it applied to America and Americans earlier this week, "We have clear eyes — we know what we believe. Full hearts — we love this country and we can't lose. This is a time for Americans to make a choice. We're going to take back this country.”

Berg is an outspoken Barack Obama supporter and rightly wants no part in the Romney campaign. Various other celebrities have spoken out in support of Romney this week, including Stacey Dash and Lindsay Lohan. It'll be interesting to see what slogan Romney and his team come up with instead, perhaps the next one will be original at the very least.
