Pixie Lott found it "scary" to make the album she really wanted to but has finally decided to "go with [her] heart" after a decade away from the music industry.
Pixie Lott found it "scary" to make the album she really wanted to.
The 33-year-old pop star enjoyed a run of hit singles in the late 2000s with 'Mama Do' and 'Cry Me Out' but has not released a record in a decade and upon her return to the music industry with 'Encino', admitted that she "cannot believe" it has been so long.
She said: "I can’t believe it’s been 10 years since my last album, but I’m so excited to be back doing what I love the most. I’m taking risks this time.
"Previously, I’ve gone in the direction others have envisioned for me but nobody really ever pushed me to try the things I wanted.
"It’s scary but I’m going with my heart now – I want to show other sides of myself. I’ve always wanted to do something with a timeless, classic sound that could be played at any point in time."
The 'Boys and Girls' hitmaker - who has eight-month-old son Albert with husband Oliver Cheshire - has released 'Somebody's Daughter' as the lead single from the new album and was inspired to write the track after experiencing trolling online.
She said: "I try not to read any negative stuff online, but sometimes you can’t help it. 'Somebody’s Daughter' is a reminder that we’re all human – we need to be kind and put ourselves in someone else’s shoes more."
Meanwhile, Pixie will be back the road with her live band over the summer.
Fans will be able to preview the record at an intimate show at London’s Hoxton Hall on 11 July.
Pixie will be playing with a six-piece band, which will also include some of her hits from the first three albums but with a raw, fresh take to sit alongside her new music.
