Everyone’s favourite fantasy drama Game of Thrones is finding its way to consoles, PCs and – we assume – Macs, once more. It’s happening via the highly rated Telltale Games in 2014. Rumors of the game have been circling for just over a month now, but the company behind The Walking Dead game have confirmed 2014 will see George R.R Martin’s famous books reimagined into a game.

"We'll be taking advantage of all the fiction to make something great," said Telltale CEO Dan Connors during the announcement at the VGX 2013 awards show. "We're just really getting into it right now and thinking about characters — who has the most at stake, who has the biggest impact on the world." (Verge)

And the date of the game – the year anyway – was announced via Twitter. “It's TRUE! We're working with @HBO to create an all-new episodic game series based on GAME OF THRONES in 2014! #VGX”.

This isn’t the only videogame version of the popular HBO show; a role-playing version was released in 2012 on PC, Xbox and PS3, but it wasn’t successful. The critics bemoaning the poor mechanics, listless character depth and frighteningly bad graphics. But Telltale are famous for all three of those things, and doing those three things right.

Their simple point ‘n’ click mechanic in the Walking Dead game was a hit, while character depth was the hallmark of their success. It’s unknown how they’ll approach GoT visually, but their distinctive comicbook art style has already won many fans.

Most recently, Telltale found success with The Wolf Among Us, which builds upon the success of The Walking Dead’s game style, but takes on a new franchise: the Fables comic books. And if all those games weren’t enough, the second season of The Walking Dead game is available for pre-order now.
