Tim Allen wants to "finally make a statement" with his latest sitcom.
The 70-year-old actor - who first starred in 'Home Improvement' from 1991 to 1999 before later returning with new TV comedy 'Last Man Standing' from 2011 to 2021 - has some big goals in mind for his new show 'Shifting Gears'.
He told Entertainment Tonight: "I am very excited. You know, I tried really hard with 'Home Improvement', and then 'Last Man Standing'.
"Maybe three's a charm! Maybe I can finally make a statement with this.
"It was a big event for me, 'cause I really loved Home Improvement, [so] to do Last Man Standing was a big push, and then I love that family so much.
"But then ABC said, 'If you come up with an idea,' and I said, 'If I did it, it would be this.' And we came up with this idea, and we're getting there."
In the new show, the 'Toy Story' star plays Matt, who the synopsis describes as the "stubborn, widowed owner of a classic car restoration shop".
His whole life gets turned upside down when his entranged daughter - and her own children - come to live with him, which is when "the real restoration begins".
He added to ET: "I'm very geeked to be given this opportunity."
The sitcom has been commissioned for a pilot, with Mike and Julie Scully co-writing the script, as well as and executive producing alongside Tim.
It's the latest in a long line of projects he has been part of with ABC and Disney, including 'Home Improvement' and 'Last Man Standing'.
Meanwhile, Tim returned last year for a second season of festive Disney+ series 'The Santa Clauses', having first reprised his role as Scott Calvin/Santa Claus in 2022.
