Tina Fey's newest comedy endeavour 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot' has managed to triumph in the eyes of most critics, who have accepted the whole WTF aspect and generally enjoyed the ride even if it was a little messy in parts. But some reviewers had some less positive points to make.

'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot' generally seems to have fared better for those open to the fact that this is not a straight comedy. Based on the autobiography of Kim Barker, it follows a journalist taking a huge leap in jetting off to Afghanistan and Pakistan warzones to cover the conflicts there.

It seems to have been a successful transition to film, with Salon describing it as having 'an air of care, generosity and sincerity throughout', Deadline calling it 'a real triumph for lovers of dark, satirical comedy with an edge and something to say' and Forbes praising Fey's performance as a 'star turn that provides dramatic oomph without suffocating her legendary comedic chops'.

AV Club were a little disappointment in the lack of comedy, given Fey's television roles. 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot could have used some 30 Rock wit', they said, and Entertainment Weekly weren't entirely convinced by Fey's character Kim Baker: 'Fey leans hard - too hard, early on - on Kim's cluelessness and her own wry, self-aware Fey-ness.'

An overriding criticism from most early reviews were about the unusual casting choice for the main Afghan characters Ali Massoud Sadiq and Fahim Ahmadzai, who were actually played by Alfred Molina and Christopher Abbott respectively. 'The fact that the two significant Afghan characters in 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot' are played by Molina, who is British, and Christopher Abbott, who is American, strikes me as at least a question mark in 2016', Salon pointed out.

But, despite it's 'narrow, filtered perspective', Vanity Fair decided there was 'more bite and bitter edge than expected' and 'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot' was, all round, a movie that 'immerses, even if it offers only a glance'.

'Whiskey Tango Foxtrot' is set for release in the US on March 4th 2016.
