The 28-year-old was apprehended at Atlanta's Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, on Friday (10th October).

Reports suggest the rapper was attempting to board an airplane with a gun in his hand luggage. Police were forced to arrest Waka during the standard security check as he did not have a permit to carry the weapon. He was charged with carrying a weapon in a prohibited place.

Waka was taken to a nearby jail in Clayton County to await a bond hearing. Waka's attorney has spoken to TMZ and claims the whole incident was a mix up. He alleges Waka is in the process of moving house and, in the confusion, accidently picked up his fiancé's bag which happened to contain a gun.

There may have even been ammunition contained in the bag, if reports are accurate. MTV believes a picture the TSA, the Transport Security Administration, uploaded on to their Instagram account (yes, as bizarre as it seems, they have an Instagram account), is of the gun from Waka's bag. The picture was captioned: "This 5.7X28mm pistol was discovered in a carry-on bag today at the #Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson (#ATL) International Airport. It was loaded with 29 rounds plus one in the chamber. This could have been legally packed in checked baggage."

Waka is best known for such tracks as 'O Let's Do It', 'Hard in da Paint' and 'No Hands'. He released his fourth studio album, Flockaveli 2, earlier this year.
