With the biggest and best Game of Thrones season finale so far (according to the writers) just a day away, HBO have released a sneak preview of the carnage to come (beware of spoilers for the previous three episodes). The clip is just 35 seconds long, but it does give a glimpse of the relevant storylines. In flashes, we see Bran and his band of misfits arrive at the heart tree, which they’ve been traveling to all season. Will we get to see Bran go full-on warg and finally control his power? And what’s the Reeds’ role in all of this? As Bran’s protectors/guides to the spirit world, they will probably get to shine at the end of this journey.

Watch the preview below.

Meanwhile, in King’s Landing, Cercei appears to be having a very bitter heart-to-heart with The World’s Worst Dad, Tywin Lannister. It looks like he’ll finally have to face the whole incest issue and the fact that his family is generally falling apart.

“How can someone so consumed by the idea of his family have any conception what his actual family was doing?” Cercei’s voice says. Did it just get real in here?

But the real thing we care about – Tyrion’s fate after Oberyn Martell... er... lost his head in The Imp’s trial by combat – isn’t even mentioned. Oh, Game of Thrones, why must you torture us so?

There are a couple flashes of Arya and the Hound, who are setting off on a new course, after their original plan failed, as well as everyone’s favorite dragon queen, Daenerys. Dany isn’t really doing much in the trailer, just looking beautiful, fierce and determined, but her storyline tends to be the writers’ favorite end-of-season cliffhanger.

Emiia Clarke, Kit Harington, Peter Dinklage, Maisie Williams,
This episode's biggest questionmarks - Daenerys, Jon, Tyrion, Arya.

And of course, there’s the big one – Jon Snow and the Night’s Watch versus Mance Rayder and the Free Folk. After a hard won victory against the wildlings and the death of Ygritte, Jon set off to meet Mance and... negotiate? Fight? Get his own head chopped off? That much wasn’t clear. What is clear – from the preview, at least – is that something has gone spectacularly wrong and now the Free Folk are coming to “kill every last man in Castle Black.” Ok, but the love of Jon’s life is dead, so you can bet he’ll put up one hell of a fight. Chaos and destruction ensue. The Children airs on HBO this Sunday from 8PM.
